Dr. Oluebube A. Chukwu, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Abia State on Due Process, has highlighted the importance of journalism in building an informed society, stressing that the free flow of knowledge and information remains essential to societal growth and development.

Dr. Chukwu made this known during an engagement with members of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Abia State Council, on Thursday October 15th, 2026, following an invitation by the Council Chairman, Comrade Chidi Asonye. He expressed appreciation to the union for the invitation and the opportunity to share his thoughts on the role of the media in society.

Speaking on the responsibilities of journalists, he emphasised the need for excellence, professionalism and a strong commitment to accurate and responsible information dissemination. He noted that journalists play a vital role in shaping public understanding, promoting accountability and bridging the gap between government and the people through credible reporting.

Drawing from his experience in government as the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Alex Otti on Due Process, Dr. Chukwu shared insights into his responsibilities and the workings of government. He also spoke on some of Governor Otti’s interventions and efforts towards improving governance and delivering meaningful development to the people of Abia State.

The engagement also featured an interactive session during which Dr. Chukwu entertained questions from members of the union and provided suitable answers, offering further clarification on issues raised. The exchange provided an opportunity for open dialogue, knowledge sharing and a better understanding of governance and public service.

He reiterated that journalism remains a critical pillar of society, noting that without the sharing of knowledge and the effective transfer of information, public awareness and collective progress would be hindered. His engagement with the NUJ Abia State Council underscored the importance of continued dialogue between government and the media in promoting transparency, accountability and an informed society.
